HELMUT LANG: fall 2010

Nicole and Michael Colovos approached their fall line with the concept of creating modern structures on top of the classics.

The patterns in this collection were bold and prominent, but not over powering. the neutral colors assisted in taming these patterns, and transforming them into flowing canvases.

BLACK. BLACK. BLACK. As usual, all black ensembles played a huge role in this collection for the two designers. Black is such an understated color. It is beautiful, chic, and romantic.

The color was brought in again with more prints, these a little more chaotic than the others; not only in their prints but in the way the actual garments are shaped.

Helmut Lang's fall 2010 was a lovely collection of enhanced classics. It's darkness holds a sense of mystery and romanticism wrapped into one.

A New Direction for Men: Spring 2011

Due to my lack of posting on a regular schedule i have fallen drastically behind in my menswear coverage of the runways shows. So fast in fact that menswear spring 2011 has already come and gone. To keep it current along with my fellow fashion bloggers ( we're a breed of our own), i have decided to start my reviews of the spring 2011 season, leaving what was unspoken of the fall 2010 season behind me. Look forward to my coverage of spring 2011; who knows, maybe you can even pull a similar ensemble together for this summer and be head of the crowd. Thank you for reading.

COMME DES GARCONS spring/summer 2011:

Rei Kawakubo spring 2011 for CDG created a lovely collection suited for the not-so-average business man. All black and white, Checkered and Skull prints, this collection of thin suits, romper-esque shorts, skirts (i'm dying), was a success for the Rei; however; the question is raised if the skull prints on nearly everything was in some way paying homage to the late McQueen, who iconic symbol was the skull. Either way Rei Kawakubo always impresses me the cuts and shapes she produces for both her men's and women's line. Job well done.

Strong, confident, and comfortable; ADAM's fall 2010 collection is one that fits into all three categories. this cohesive line blended soft knits, sequins, shear fabric, and thick fabrics into a warm line for the contemporary women looking for something relaxed, yet chic.

3.1 Phillip Lim f/w 2010 Runway

Animal furs, prints, sequin, shear, fish tales, and asymmetrical garments were all found prowling down the catwalk at 3.1 Phillip Lim's fall/ winter show. There is something here for every woman searching for looks that are current and forward, yet subtle. I found Lim's collection soft and romantic, with an edge. The entire line was a success. From the leopard dyed rabbit furs, to the chunky tasseled and strapped platforms, i have a new found liking for the works of Phillip Lim.

Style note: gentlemen, its official: oxfords and blazers aren't going away in street wear for quite sometime. for the summer, the darker the shirt and pants, the lighter the blazer. it will help keep you cool and make the blazer pop. try cuffing your slacks while you're at it. a little ankle never hurt. keep the backpack sweat lines off with a satchel or briefcase.

Comme Des Garçons Fall Winter 2010/2011

Rei Kawakubo never ceases to amaze and bewilder me with her astonishing, head turning garments. Kawakubo's work is more than just clothes, it is art. That's not say that all clothing, designer that is, is not art, but there is a certain essence to everything Rei does that is almost like looking at a sculpture from one of the greats of centuries past. This collection was a perfect example of her expertise at forming the impossible and reworking the beautiful to her own definition. Rei Kawakubo is master at what she does, and I pray that we will have many more collections as marvelous as this one to come.

It has been over a year since Marc Jacobs has released a men's fragrance. What better way to make sure that it is noticed quickly (as if anything this man does goes unnoticed...) than to pose nude on a silver Mylar bed? The fragrance will be available at all Marc Jacobs boutiques and Bloomingdales this July.

Celine FAll 2010 runway show

To even begin to attempt to limit down the Celine Fall 2010 collection to a few pictures of my personal favorites was impossible. this collection was even stronger than the last. Phoebe Philo's use of structure and line is impeccable. "Strong. Powerful. Reduced.", as Philo puts it in her own words. I could not agree more with miss Philo. Sleek funnel necks, long coats, cut v neck dresses, leather shirts and pockets, and flowing blouses, all in a color pallet of black, navy, and white, Phoebe's, sleek modern garments are exactly what the market needs to get women back in the department stores stimulating our economy. Another successful season by the comeback designer. Cannot fathom what possibly could be next. but what ever it may be, we know if it has Phoebe's mark on it, it will be great.
